Valley Cleanpro in Phoenix, Arizona has been cleaning your carpets with eco-friendly methods for a long time. We know a lot about carpets and would like to share some of this knowledge with you. Here are a few carpet facts.

History of the Carpet

  • The term “carpet” comes from the Latin carpere, “to pluck,” most likely because carpets were made from unraveled or “plucked” fabric.
  • The oldest carpet known to exist is the Pazyryk carpet. It has been carbon dated at over 2,000 years old and was found in Siberia in a Scythian tomb in the 1940's.
  • No one is sure, but carpets were most likely being made long before Christ, possibly by nomads in Central Asia as a tent insulation. Over the centuries, carpet weaving was carried across Asia and into the Middle East by traders, and migrating nomads.

Carpet vs. Rug

  • According to the American carpet industry, any piece of carpet smaller than 40 square feet is considered a rug.
  • According to the American carpet industry, the ”magic carpet” that Aladdin rode upon is technically a ”magic rug.”

Bug in a Rug

  • The Norwalk virus that is the virus that causes the stomach flu, can survive on an uncleaned carpet for more than a month.
  • Bed bugs can live in carpet fibers and wooden floorboards. They like to suck blood, usually at night from people who are sleeping.
  • Beetle Grubs or Woolly Bears as they are commonly called, like to eat your wool carpet. A special chemical in their stomachs turns the wool into sugar.
  • A Firebrat, which looks similar to a Silverfish, will make its home deep into warm carpets that are near a fireplace or heater.
Cleaning your carpet by a professional on a regular basis can keep these “Buglies” from infesting your home. Give Valley Cleanpro carpet cleaning in Phoenix, Arizona a call at 480-323-8740 or 602-904-2140, or you can e-mail us at valleycleanpro@gmail.com.
