Here in Phoenix, we are not likely to need our fireplace to keep us warm during the winter months. However, that does not mean we cannot appreciate the beauty of a lit fire and perhaps for that reason, we’ll still utilize the fireplace in our home. If you do choose to enjoy a log fire, you may find an unwanted visitor—fireplace soot on your carpet! If this happens, don’t worry, as Valley Cleanpro in Phoenix has a few solutions that can assist you to remove soot fairly easily.
  • The first step is to remove any loose, large pieces of soot. You can do this by vacuuming over the affected area of the carpet. You may also use a dull knife to pry off pieces that seem to be worked into the carpet, and then vacuum again.
  • Next, take cornstarch or baking soda and sprinkle it on the carpet, leaving it sitting for an hour with a towel over the top.
  • Vacuum the area again and see if the stain is removed.
  • If not, apply dry cleaning liquid to the area a bit at a time and blot the stain.
  • You may have to add more liquid and it is fine to repeat the process; remember that soot is difficult to get off of carpet so it may take a little while.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you are likely to be satisfied with your hard work and results. However, if you have a stain that is particularly stubborn, or some other stains on your carpet you feel need professional cleaning, remember Cleanpro for carpet cleaning in Phoenix.
